Sr Economic & Financial Analyst - Trade & Commodities

Job Purpose/Role

The Economic Research Department's mission is to carry out diagnosis, monitoring and forecasts of macroeconomic and corporate trends on a worldwide basis, to assess and monitor country risks and industry risks, and to develop in depth analysis on key crosscutting themes such as global trade, protectionism, insolvencies, payment behavior, sustainability, both for internal (strategic, commercial and risk decisions) and external (brand awareness).

As a Senior Economic & Financial Analyst, you are in charge of monitoring macroeconomic trends related to global trade, forecasting main aggregates (global exports, imports) and analyzing global supply chains. You are also in charge of monitoring corporates trends in firms operating in Commodity-related industries (metals, agrifood, energy, materials). You are responsible for developing in depth analysis on these sectors’ financial health, outlook and for writing impactful research reports.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor global trade dynamics, forecast main trade metrics (exports, imports both in volume and value), track global supply chains disruptions and reconfigurations, analyze and update trade barriers across countries and sectors to support macroeconomic research and decision making of our key stakeholders.
  • Ensure thorough monitoring of commodity-related industry trends to (i) complete the macro and market monitoring and analysis and (ii) better inform commercial and risk decisions (maintain database, update forecasts, follow panels and respond to queries from operations)
  • Deliver quality knowledge products such as reports and presentations on industry developments, sector risks and companies-related topics (such as insolvencies, DSO, credit ratings, earning seasons, equity performance, M&A) to leverage Allianz Trade’s outreach (write analytical reports and make presentations to clients, prospects and the media)
  • Conducting ad-hoc researches, setting up new indicators, setting-up new database, leveraging our proprietary databases and developing new tools
  • Develop research on cutting edge topics related to digitalization, AI and sustainability.

Key Requirements/Skills/Experience

  • Knowledge in macroeconomics, corporate finance and statistics
  • Over 5 years’ experience in economic research or financial analysis
  • Strong writing skills
  • Ability to work in an international environment
  • Strong team player
  • Very good knowledge of Excel and PowerPoint
  • Experience with financial data providers (LSEG Workspace, Bloomberg)
  • Skills in econometrics/data science and programming in Python is a plus
  • English proficiency, another European language is a plus (French, German, Spanish)
