Compliance Officer/MLRO Support Officer (Senior Associate) – External Compliance Solutions Team

We are seeking an experienced and motivated professional to join our External Compliance Solutions Team. The successful candidate will support the Money Laundering Reporting Officer (MLRO) and Compliance Officer (CO) in the delivery of compliance, AML/CFT, and regulatory oversight services to Apex-administered entities holding financial services licences in Mauritius. The role requires technical knowledge of Mauritius' regulatory framework, good analytical skills, and the ability to work effectively in a dynamic and deadline-driven environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist the MLRO/CO of regulated client entities in implementing and maintaining effective AML/CFT/CPF controls in accordance with applicable laws, regulations, and internal compliance frameworks.
  • Conduct transaction monitoring reviews and perform second-line compliance monitoring controls in line with approved monitoring plans and risk-based methodologies.
  • Perform periodic and event-driven Customer Due Diligence (CDD) and Enhanced Due Diligence (EDD) reviews on a sample basis and identify any deficiencies requiring remediation.
  • Assist in the preparation, review, and updating of client entities' Business Risk Assessments (BRA), AML/CFT/CPF Risk Assessments, and related compliance documentation.
  • Support ongoing sanctions, politically exposed persons (PEP), adverse media, and other screening activities as required.
  • Assist in the identification, assessment, escalation, and tracking of compliance and AML/CFT matters, including suspicious activities and material compliance breaches.
  • Support regulatory inspections, onsite examinations, offsite examinations, and information requests from the Financial Services Commission (FSC) and other competent authorities.
  • Assist in the preparation and submission of regulatory reports, compliance reports, Board papers, and management information reports.
  • Maintain appropriate records and documentation evidencing compliance with applicable regulatory and AML/CFT requirements.
  • Assist in monitoring regulatory developments and assessing their impact on client entities.
  • Prepare compliance metrics, key risk indicators (KRIs), key performance indicators (KPIs), and management reports for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Participate in compliance projects, remediation exercises, and ad hoc assignments as directed by the MLRO, CO, or senior management.

Skills, Qualifications and Experience Required

  • Degree in Law, Risk Management, Compliance, Corporate Governance, or another relevant discipline.
  • Relevant professional qualifications in AML/CFT, Compliance, Governance, Risk, or Financial Services will be considered an advantage.
  • Minimum of 3 years' relevant experience within the financial services sector, compliance function, AML/CFT environment, management company, trust company, banking institution, or other regulated financial institution.
  • Sound knowledge of the Mauritius financial services regulatory framework, including:
    • Financial Intelligence and Anti-Money Laundering Act (FIAMLA);
    • FIAML Regulations 2018;
    • FSC AML/CFT Handbook;
    • Financial Services Act;
    • Relevant FSC Rules, Codes, Guidelines, and Circulars.
  • Strong understanding of AML/CFT/CPF requirements, risk-based approach principles, customer due diligence obligations, transaction monitoring, sanctions screening, and suspicious transaction reporting.
  • Ability to assess compliance risks and apply regulatory requirements in a practical and commercial manner.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with clients, regulators, auditors, and senior management.
  • Strong analytical, organisational, and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, work under pressure, and meet strict regulatory and client deadlines.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Demonstrates integrity, accountability, professionalism, and a proactive "can-do" attitude.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a team environment.
