ROLE SUMMARY: FTSE Russell (LSEG) is building the real-time platform that powers global index calculation across equity, fixed income, and multi-asset markets. We’re looking for a hands-on Senior Technical Lead to help modernise and scale this platform — a cloud-native, low-latency system that operates at global scale and underpins critical investment products used worldwide. This is an individual contributor leadership role. You’ll lead through architecture, engineering quality, and delivery — designing resilient, event-driven systems, shaping technical direction, and raising standards across the team. You’ll work on systems where performance, data quality, and reliability are non-negotiable, while leveraging modern cloud (AWS) and AI-assisted development tooling to accelerate delivery without compromising control. WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING: Design and build real-time, event-driven systems that calculate and distribute index data with low latency and high reliability. Own platform architecture and engineering quality, leading through hands-on delivery, code review, and clear technical direction. Scale and operate a cloud-native platform on AWS, ensuring resilience, observability, and performance under real market conditions. Define and evolve data models and pipelines for market and reference data, with strong focus on accuracy, auditability, and control. Drive engineering standards and modernisation, using AI-assisted tooling and automation to improve delivery speed without compromising quality. Tech Stack Development: Java, C#,, Python, SQL, OpenAPI. Cloud: AWS (Lambda, API Gateway, S3, SQS, SNS, Aurora, and others as required). Databases: Sybase ASE, Sybase IQ, Aurora Postgres. IaC and CI\u002FCD: Terraform, AWS CLI, GitLab. AI Development: Agentic AI tooling (e.g. GitHub Copilot, Claude Code) WHAT YOU'LL BRING: Strong software engineering background, with experience designing and building distributed, event-driven systems. Proven ability to own system design and architecture, balancing performance, scalability, and reliability. Hands-on experience building and operating cloud-native applications on AWS. Solid understanding of data modelling and relational databases in production systems. Experience with infrastructure as code (e.g. Terraform) and modern CI\u002FCD practices. Demonstrated ability to lead through engineering quality — code reviews, testing strategy, and raising technical standards. Nice to Have Experience working on low-latency or real-time systems. Exposure to financial services, market data, or index products. Practical use of AI-assisted development tooling to improve engineering productivity. How We Work The Real Time team builds and operates the platform that calculates, manages and distributes FTSE Russell's real-time indices to the global financial ecosystem. We foster a culture of engineering excellence, solving real-world problems with purpose and ambition. We're looking for skilled and passionate engineers to drive the future of modern solutions working with leading AI development tools. Build with purpose. Start with why. Define the problem before reaching for a solution. Customer driven. Work backwards from client needs and build products to address real-world problems. Technically courageous. Go beyond your comfort zone and push boundaries to deliver excellence. Learn and be curious. Continuously seek feedback, learn in formal and informal settings, actively share knowledge. Act as owners. Operate as though it is your business. Make thoughtful trade-offs and deliver long-term value. Lead with data. Validate assumptions, stay close to the details, act decisively. Doing research and investment writing for delivering high quality, thought-provoking research content, by way of regular periodical research reports, impactful short story-telling pieces, topical research insights, white papers and deep thematic research, published through multiple channels. All research efforts are aimed at deepening client engagement, providing critical support for FTSE Russell’s existing and new equity, multi-asset, private markets indices, increasing the value proposition and awareness of FTSE Russell indices within the institutional and wealth channels. Proactively thinking of utilizing new datasets and analytics to expand the repertoire of GIR research into private markets. Hosting webinars, senior\u002Fstrategic client-facing research engagements and actively participate in industry conferences and events. Actively engaging and partnering with key internal stakeholders in Product, Index methodology research, Marketing, Sales, and external stakeholders of FTSE Russell. Collect and categorise feedback from the AI tool’s users – internal today, external as it scales – and turn it into a prioritised feature roadmap, working with Research developers to ship. Engage clients and run market and competitive analysis to spot demand and growth opportunities, translating requirements into index enhancements and new solutions. Make pragmatic prioritisation calls at speed, balancing client demand, technical effort and commercial value. Partner with Sales and Marketing on positioning, go-to-market and revenue growth across institutional and wealth segments. Bridge the engineers building the AI tool and the people who rely on it, and keep senior collaborators updated on progress. What you’ll bring A genuine product-led attitude – you start from the user and the problem and own outcomes, not tasks. Proven ability to thrive in fast-paced, ambiguous environments, deciding quickly and reprioritising; versatile enough to switch context and pick up unfamiliar topics fast. Technical fluency to work credibly with software and AI\u002FML developers – no need to write production code, but you understand how AI products are built and shipped; experience supporting a software or data product, ideally AI\u002FML. Strong feedback-synthesis and prioritisation instincts – comfortable saying no and defending trade-offs. 5+ years in product, technical product or research roles, ideally in financial services or the index\u002Fdata industry; familiarity with equity and\u002For multi-asset products, indices and benchmarks (ETFs, funds, derivatives). Strong analytical and communication skills, and the ability to work effectively across research, technology, sales, operations and marketing in a product-led organisation. Education Degree in Finance, Economics, Engineering, Mathematics, Computer Science or a related field; a CFA or relevant technical\u002FAI credential an advantage. Python coding, familiarity with data science workflows, and comfort using frontier AI tools would be a strong advantage.
