Senior Java Software Developer_D-2587

Allianz Insurance • BARCELONA, ES

About the Job

Are you a passionate Java developer looking to build modern systems from the ground up and make a real impact? Join our growing hub in Spain at Allianz Technology and help us drive innovative solutions for the KLS (Kollektivleben System), our end-to-end industry solution for the Swiss Group Life business (BVG). In this role, you will be a senior Java engineer who thinks end-to-end — bridging stable core systems with modern cloud-native innovation, collaborating with global colleagues, and shaping the direction and culture of a new team. If you thrive on greenfield Java development, cutting-edge architecture, and solving complex technical puzzles, we want to hear from you!

What you do

  • Analyze and assess Java-based software development tasks and complex requirements according to project specifications, contributing to greenfield initiatives where you design and build modern systems and gateways from scratch.
  • Develop and implement software requirements and interfaces within the KLS environment using Java 21 and Spring Boot, applying modern architectural patterns such as Hexagonal Architecture, SAGA Pattern, and microservices to ensure scalability and maintainability.
  • Drive the transition of legacy Java systems into modern cloud services and develop new insurance products for B2B/B2C sectors, leveraging the latest features of the Java ecosystem.
  • Optimize platform processes through automation and AI-driven solutions (e.g., via our AZ Gen-AI Lab), actively using AI tools to enhance your own productivity and foster innovation within the team.
  • Implement thorough unit tests and write clean, disciplined Java code that adheres to high application standards and agile practices.
  • Collaborate closely with business teams to co-create Domain-Specific Language (DSL) solutions that directly address organizational needs, working alongside Solution Designers and Product Owners in a 2-week agile sprint framework.
  • Provide clear documentation and take full ownership of Java implementations — including travel to Switzerland for on-site collaboration with our global colleagues.

What you bring

  • Willingness to develop knowledge about the Allianz Suisse-specific group life model and its foundation; experience in group life insurance business is a plus.
  • Minimum 5 years of professional experience in Java development, software design, and technical implementation with excellent proficiency in Java 21, Spring Boot, REST APIs and unit testing frameworks.
  • Practical experience or strong familiarity with modern technologies such as Kafka, Camunda, or Azure cloud services as strong pluses.
  • Daily proficiency with Java developer tools including Eclipse/IntelliJ, JIRA and DBeaver.
  • Strong understanding of modern software architectures including Hexagonal Architecture, SAGA Pattern, microservices, and complex distributed system landscapes.
  • Solid knowledge of DevOps practices, including CI/CD pipelines (Maven, Jenkins), Git workflows and containerization using Docker.
  • A highly motivated, independent problem-solver and proactive communicator in English who embraces collaboration across international teams and is excited to help shape a new hub in Spain.
  • Familiarity with AI and machine learning tools and a genuine interest in applying them to optimize Java development workflows and business processes.

What we offer

  • We offer a hybrid work model which recognizes the value of striking a balance between in-person collaboration and remote working incl. up to 25 days per year working from abroad.
  • We believe in rewarding performance and our compensation and benefits package includes a company bonus scheme, pension, employee shares program and multiple employee discounts (details vary by location).
  • From career development and digital learning programs to international career mobility, we offer lifelong learning for our employees worldwide and an environment where innovation, delivery and empowerment are fostered.
  • Flexible working, health and wellbeing offers (including healthcare and parental leave benefits) support to balance family and career and help our people return from career breaks with experience that nothing else can teach.
